What - if anything - do you remember from the night you won PPA Editor of the Year?

I loved winning, but I found it a rather lonely occasion. Walking round with a big framed certificate lost its magic fairly quickly and I think I’d also been led to believe there was some sort of cash prize as well, which there was no sign of, so I thought perhaps I’d dropped it in the hysteria. I called some time after the event and was told it had been discontinued the previous year.

What was your favourite single front cover during your time as Editor and why?

There isn’t one that sets off a volcano of nostalgia, but I quite liked the All Saints one. That was the height of our obsession with elaborate fold out technology.

Looking back as a PPA award-winning Editor, what advice would you now give yourself when you were starting out in our industry?

Not that I would have listened, but don’t assume anything. Always say yes. Just ask.
