2001 PPA Consumer Editor of the Year

What - if anything - do you remember from the night you won PPA Editor of the Year?

In 2001, I was sober as a judge, as always, I remember everything. I remember thinking my legs were going to give way as I walked from the back of the hall and Sam Baker meeting me off the stage, more excited for me than even I was. I also remember talking for ages to Kevin Hand (and Mrs Hand) - Kevin was always so very supportive.

In 2002, we won magazine as well that year. That was crazy. Just utter euphoria. I still would have been the first to leave though, as usual. I always did know the right time to leave the party.

What was your favourite single front cover during your time as Editor and why?

Pete and Nikki, summer 2006. It's the 20 year anniversary of Big Brother this summer and those were damn good times (and covers). Once they left the house they were ours, really, to do what we wanted with them. Friday nights covering the eviction with a team in Borehamwood (well, actually just Lucie Cave) and one in the office was the best fun. What a team. That issue sold 700,000 copies.

Looking back as a PPA award-winning Editor, what advice would you now give yourself when you were starting out in our industry?

Baz is right - it's all about the readers. In fact I probably nicked it from him.
