What - if anything - do you remember from the night you won PPA Editor of the Year?
I remember lots of kind comments and making lots of calls to my team at Local Government Chronicle to tell them we had won. And of course celebrating with champagne.
What was your favourite single front cover during your time as Editor and why?
The edition the week after the 7/7 bombings in 2005 had a striking cover photograph of a Muslim woman on the fringes of a local government meeting which perfectly captured the leading role councils were determined to play in bringing local communities together in the aftermath of the attack, in defiance of the aims of the bombers and the far right.
Looking back as a PPA award-winning Editor, what advice would you now give yourself when you were starting out in our industry?
What everyone learns quickly is that success depends on finding great people and giving them the space, support and encouragement to do their best work.
