What do you remember from the night you won PPA Editor of the Year?
My first thought when my name was read out was: 'thank God I had a blow dry' as the shortlist had been so strong I almost didn't bother to dress up. That year (2017) the song played as you walked up on stage was personalised and mine was So Long, Marianne by Leonard Cohen. It's one of my favourite ever songs, but pretty maudlin so I felt borderline tearful.
What was your favourite single front cover?
Our cover featuring 70-year-old Maye Musk (interestingly also mother to Elon) is my all-time favourite. She perfectly summed up the spirited demographic we called 'the perennials', which Stella successfully identified and super-served.
What advice would you give yourself when you were starting out in the industry?
To serve only one master: the reader. To listen to your instincts. And to always be nice to people.
